The bikini-and-barrel sessions Bernard took of Monroe in 1946 were also captured in brief snippets on motion picture film. Bernard’s studio handled so many young hopefuls looking to break into movies that he added silent screen tests to his roster of services, the better to “sell” a client’s image and essence to studio casting offices reviewing fresh talent. These early sessions helped lead to Monroe’s first contract with 20th Century Fox. At the time, the two-piece bathing suit Monroe wore in the photographs was considered highly scandalous.
